Aeronautical Engineers, Inc (AEI) has received an FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (ST02690LA) for the passenger-to-freighter conversion of Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The prototype 737-800SF freighter conversion (MSN 29121) was completed in December, yet experienced a delay in certification due to the partial government shutdown.

The conversion incorporates a reinforced floor structure, a large 86in x 137in Main Cargo Door with a single vent door system, and a flexible Ancra Cargo Loading System. Additionally, it includes a rigid 9g barrier, up to five supernumerary seats, a galley and full lavatory.


The freighter offers a main deck payload of up to 23,904kg and incorporates eleven full height 88in x 125in container positions, plus an additional position for an AEP/AEH.


The company has already secured 111 firm orders and commitments for the 737-800SF and is forecasting that 750 aircraft will be converted over the next 40 plus years with AEI capturing over 400 of those conversions.


Ameco Chengdu Branch has delivered its 12th Boeing 757-200 passenger-to-freighter aircraft, also the 8th for SF Airlines of China.


PEMCO Conversions has announced a Boeing 737-700 Next Generation Passenger-to-Full Freighter conversion programme. Chisholm Enterprises of Bahrain will be the launch customer. PEMCO will induct an aircraft at its headquarters in Tampa, FL, during 2Q19. The company will amend its pending application with the FAA for the 737-700FC STC to accommodate the full freighter conversion, streamlining the approval process. After initial FAA approval, PEMCO Conversions plans to certify both 737-700 conversion programmes with EASA and CAAC.

The Full Freighter will be the second NG conversion for the PEMCO Conversions team. The first was the B737-700 FlexCombi in 2018 (STC pending), which offers three flexible configurations. The Full Freighter maximises freight capacity with a main deck designed for 20,400kg of payload and 108m³ of total volume, and offering nine pallet positions accommodating 88in x 125in or 88in x 108in pallets.


ST Engineering’s Aerospace Sector has signed an agreement with a contract value of about $600 million to provide aircraft heavy maintenance services to a major North American operator. ST Engineering will support the operator, an existing customer, on a fleet of over 160 widebody and narrowbody aircraft starting in 2020 for a period of 10 years. The work will be carried out in San Antonio, TX, and Pensacola, FL.


Under the long-term strategic alliance, ST Engineering is able to offer a fleet reliability programme that monitors the health of each aircraft and recommends maintenance actions to address identified issues before they impact the airline's operational reliability. Continuous improvement initiatives over the duration of the programme will also help drive greater efficiency and shorter turnaround times during maintenance.
