Airbus has signed an agreement with TAP Portugal to upgrade the cabins of its A330s, A319s, A320s and A321s. The engineering and certification will be accomplished by Airbus Upgrade Services for seven A330ceo and 41 A320ceo Family aircraft. The retrofit on the A330s will include new business class seats, featuring new IFE, while the retrofit on the A320 Family fleet will include new seats. Both aircraft types will sport the airline’s new interior styling.

The programme is planned to start in the third quarter of 2016 for the A320 Family fleet, with the A330ceo fleet following in the first quarter of 2017. All the cabin modifications will be completed by the end of 2017, with TAP Maintenance & Engineering carrying out the work in its facilities. Meanwhile, Airbus will supply Service Bulletins (SBs), perform the engineering design, define and provide the methodology, and ensure the overall integration of the retrofit components into the aircraft.

Ameco has completed its first Sharklet retrofit on an Airbus A321 aircraft at its facility in Chengdu, China. Meanwhile, similar work of winglet modifications on Boeing manufactured aircraft is going on at Ameco’s Beijing Base. Starting in March of 2016, the first of three Boeing aircraft for an undisclosed carrier has already been completed.

ATR and French aircraft seat manufacturer Expliseat have signed a buyer-furnished equipment (BFE) agreement for the supply of its Titanium seat. The new seat allows airlines to save up to 300kg when compared to current ATR 42/72-600 series cabin configurations. The new seats will create substantial fuel savings and will further enhance payload capacity and operational flexibility on short runways or within hot and high environments. In addition, the new Titanium seats feature only 30 parts per seat, thus reducing maintenance costs. The Titanium seats are provided as an option for new aircraft and are also available for all ATR aircraft types in retrofit.

 

Air Tahiti is the launch customer of this new cabin solution, with an entry into service of the Titanium seats on a retrofitted ATR aircraft expected in May 2016. The seats will be available on new ATR aircraft produced at the ATR manufacturing plant by the end of the year.

Avtrade has expanded its longstanding relationship and partnership with AFI KLM E&M. The deal dates back to 2011 and includes joint venture company, AAF Spares in Miami, FL, to include Inventory Consignment agreements for parts provisioning/sale/exchange and lease for A320 Family, A340, Boeing 737, 747, 777, CRJ and Embraer fleets. Avtrade will store and trade over 7,500 AFI KLM E&M-owned serviceable components and consumables at its UK headquarters.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has renewed a strategic alliance with Fokker Services to provide the ABACUS FLY programme to operators of Dash 8/Q Series 100/200/300 aircraft. The renewal extends the alliance by three years.

GAMECO has celebrated the establishment of its Qing Yuan Branch and the inauguration of Ying Fu Facilities in Ying Fu Industry Park in the Qing Xin District, Qing Yuan City. The Ying Fu facilities occupy an area of 3 hectares with a 10,818m², Phase I construction for landing gear disassembly, cleaning, repair, assembly, testing and other supporting facilities. The site is capable of handling nearly 100 gear sets every year. With machining and electroplating process capabilities available in the Long Wan Facilities, the Qing Yuan Branch will become a one-stop landing gear overhaul centre for Airbus A320, A330 and Boeing 737.

 

The ground-breaking for the Ying Fu and Long Wan facilities were held in December 2014 and May 2015, respectively. The construction of the Long Wan facilities should be completed in mid-2016.

LEAD AERO has been selected by Wojskowe Zak?ady Lotnicze No 2 (WZL2), based in Poland, to provide a fully customised docking system for its new narrowbody painting hangar supplied by LEAD’s Turkish partner ENMARES.

MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has celebrated its 15th anniversary. The 50/50 joint venture between MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Air Holding Company has grown to become China’s largest engine MRO shop, completing over 1,900 engine shop visits to date, including the V2500-A5 and CFM56-3/-5B/-7B. Prospects are looking good, given that the company’s revenues have doubled in the last five years alone. Long-term plans are to add further engine types to its portfolio and continue expanding its range of services.

SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Snecma have signed an agreement appointing SIAEC as CFM’s authorised on-site support (OSS) service provider for the LEAP-1A (Airbus A320neo) and LEAP-1B (Boeing 737 MAX) engines in Asia Pacific. As a Snecma-approved OSS provider, SIAEC will offer on-wing maintenance services to operators of the CFM LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines in the Asia Pacific region.
