PEMCO launches 737-700 conversions bookmark

PEMCO World Air Services (PEMCO) has launched its Passenger-to-FlexCombi and Passenger-to-Freighter conversion programmes for the Boeing Next Generation 737-700 aircraft. The programmes will be marketed as B737-700FC (FlexCombi) and B737-700F (Freighter).


Bahrain-based Chisholm Enterprises is the launch customer for the PEMCO B737-700FC. Its subsidiary Texel Air, a non-scheduled cargo airline, is set to operate the B737-700FC from Bahrain International Airport.


PEMCO will induct the first aircraft for B737-700 Passenger-to-FlexCombi modification at PEMCO’s facilities in Tampa, FL, during 2Q17. PEMCO expects to receive an FAA STC by mid-2018. After the initial issuance, PEMCO plans to certify both conversions with EASA and CAAC.


The B737-700FC offers three configurations: a 24-passenger cabin plus a 74.75m³ cargo hold for up to 13,600kg of payload in six pallet positions, a 12-passenger cabin plus a 85m³ cargo hold for up to 15,876kg of payload in seven pallet positions, or full-freighter mode consisting of a 1,528m³ cargo hold for up to 18,144kg of payload in eight pallet positions. The available positions will accommodate 88in x 125in or 88in x 108in pallets, with the seventh and eighth positions accommodating smaller pallets.


The B737-700F features nine pallet positions, up to 20,412kg of payload, and a total volume of 109m³. The available positions will accommodate 88in x 125in or 88in x 108in pallets, with the ninth position accommodating a smaller pallet

Airbus enters airline interiors business bookmark

Airbus has launched Airbus Interiors Services (AIS). Based in Toulouse, AIS is built on the engineering know-how and experiences of the former Airbus Corporate Jet Centre (ACJC). AIS is part of Services by Airbus, and is now dedicated to supporting airlines with their cabin upgrade development strategies. AIS offers various retrofit solutions through an experienced team of engineers and supply chain specialists. By combining the competitiveness and reliability of manufacturer-developed solutions with the agility of bespoke creations, AIS will deliver upgrade solutions, tailored equipment and innovative products
to Airbus standards.


AIS currently comprises three business lines to respond to airlines’ needs:


  • Tailored equipment: These cover a large scope of tailored equipment from single monument to large zone outfitting developed and delivered either to Airbus (SFE) or to airlines (BFE). Those cabin items are designed and manufactured specifically for each airline’s needs by AIS directly


  • Upgrade Solutions (cabin and connectivity): These include hybrid solutions combining Airbus SBs and AIS solutions answering a particular need for an airline


  • Innovative products: AIS designs and produces products for the benefit of the Airbus customer community. These products are part of the Airbus cabin portfolio. They include, for example, a new Central Ceiling Stowage for A320 Family ‘classic cabin’.
Pratt & Whitney launches EngineWise bookmark

Pratt & Whitney has launched EngineWise, a new service brand to better represent what it offers and how it is evolving to improve the predictability, reliability and health of customers’ fleets. The new brand encompasses all the initiatives the company has to share intelligence with, including technical expertise, fleet data and business information. It covers all commercial engine products services by Pratt & Whitney, including Pratt & Whitney Canada and International Aero Engines products.


EngineWise unifies Pratt & Whitney’s services portfolio using state-of-the-art data analytics and real-time intelligence to predict and prevent engine disruptions before they occur. Predictive analytics tools include enhanced analytics, providing expert analysis of real-time health data for more than 7,000 engines in service through data analytics platform ADEM (Advanced Diagnostics and Engine Monitoring) and full flight data, capturing thousands of engine and aircraft data parameters throughout the full flight cycle, instead of snapshots at take off and cruise, to better monitor engine performance through the e-FAST data ecosystem.


The programme involves significant investments in new technology and resources such as:


  • Investments in technology and infrastructure to upgrade equipment, add capacity and expand capability in the network of facilities


  • Enhanced customer training capability with e-training and 3D animations, and will develop virtual reality training tools to enable effective training from remote locations


  • Customised, comprehensive dollar-per-flight-hour support to optimise cost of ownership over the life cycle of an engine (Fleet Management Program)


  • Fixed price or time-and-material engine maintenance solution (engine overhaul service)


  • New and serviceable parts and part repair services designed to extend part life and improve residual value (material solutions)


  • Mobile support or on-wing and near-wing light maintenance such as quick-turn repairs, SB incorporation and component replacement.


New service offerings will be added based on customer needs.

Lufthansa Technik launches AVIATAR bookmark

Lufthansa Technik has announced that its newly created Digital Fleet Solutions product division has launched AVIATAR, an open MRO IT platform that will support customers to manage complex fleet conditions in real time and to forecast probabilities of failure of single components. It provides exchange of information across interfaces. It both aggregates and consolidates information in one central place. The platform applies analytical models to provide new insights, recommendations and notifications, enabling clients to make faster and better decisions.


The characteristics of AVIATAR are:


  • Open: AVIATAR is completely open for partners, clients and developers to co-create software or to connect their apps. The first externally integrated app is provided by Lufthansa Technik’s partner FLYdocs


  • Modular: The platform serves as a central and connecting hub for apps that offer digital products and services for the aviation industry. Users, such as airlines, MROs, OEMs, or lessors, can select from those apps and chose the ones they prefer. However, every app can also be used as a standalone product


  • Neutral: AVIATAR is an independent platform that aligns to the client’s specific technical requirements, independent of Lufthansa Technik and any MRO service contracts. 


AVIATAR starts with seven apps. Fleet Management and Performance Metrics provide basic features needed by clients to overview their fleet and key performance indicators in real-time. The combination of Condition Analytics, Fault Analytics and Predictor Plugins enables customers to monitor their fleet, analyse their data and predict maintenance ahead of time. AVIATAR’s first third-party app, Record Status by FLYdocs, displays the completeness of the clients’ records and at the same time reflects how the integration of apps can work on the platform. The Reliability Benchmarking app will allow operators to benchmark their technical reliability anonymously against the world’s leading airlines

N3 celebrates a decade bookmark

N3 Engine Overhaul Services (N3), the joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce located in Erfurt, celebrated its 10-year operating anniversary on 7 April. The company initially began operations in 2007 with 270 employees. Now, 600 specialists work at N3, 350 of which were able to pass the aeronautical qualification programme designed specifically for the company. There are currently more than 40 international airlines among the customers serviced by N3 on behalf of Rolls-Royce. Since 2007, N3 has overhauled more than 800 engines from the Trent 500 (A340), Trent 700 (A330) and Trent 900 (A380) model ranges. With the new Trent XWB (A350 XWB) engine, introduced in October 2016, output will increase from the current 100 engines per year to 150-200 engines per year in the coming years. This year it will be 130 engines


Over the years of repairing engine assemblies/components, N3 has qualified for a range of special repairs (source-controlled repairs) that are authorised and controlled directly by Rolls-Royce. An in-house engineering division allows for continuous improvement and sustainable further development of the processes and the introduction of new and innovative repair technologies. In terms of tool development, N3 also developed some solutions and established them as best practices in the Rolls-Royce network.


In the future, the company expects a moderate increase in employment. By continually training aircraft mechanics in the field of engine technology, N3 is able to satisfy its need for specialists largely by itself. Since 2008, N3 has trained approximately 12 aircraft mechanics in the field of engine technology every year. So far, 54 young men and women have finished their training and found permanent positions at N3. There are currently another 40 young men and women undertaking training at N3. Last year, for the first time, a cohort of future warehouse logistics specialists began.
